Becoming a Member

The first step towards becoming an Associate member (ASWA) is to submit work regularly for the Annual Open Exhibition for consideration by the Selection Committee.

A maximum of four works can be hung. Artists seeking election to Associate membership (ASWA) should submit six works (although a maximum of four will be hung) for consideration by the Selection Committee. The fact that six pictures have been submitted will indicate to the Selection Committee that the artist wishes to be considered for Associate membership, there is no need to make any special application or make any extra notes on the entry schedule.

If it is judged that they are exceptional then, subject to the vote of the Selection Committee and the availability of space in the Society (which has a limit of 140 members), the artist will be duly elected to Associate membership. They will not consider portfolios or CV. Associate members will be eligible for election to full membership in the year following.

Categories of work acceptable are: painting, drawing, sculpture in all media; ceramics of a non-utilitarian nature, engraving, lithography, etc.

In the case of large sculptures, please contact the Executive Secretary as special dispensation could be given for selection by photographs.

If you wish to join the mailing list to receive an invitation in the future, please advise the Executive Secretary of your name and address or enter your name in the Visitors Book which is available on the desk at the Exhibition.
