SUZANNE GIBBS

Suzanne, a former experienced Art Teacher, is currently an award-winning artist based in London and an Associate member of the SWA. Inspired by her connections with California and the effects of the wildfires, she organized a three-month solo art exhibition to raise funds for the Red Cross. Additionally, in the summer of 2022, she held another exhibition focused on global warming in the SFO Bay Area. Suzanne has won awards for both portraiture and landscape.
In the wildfire exhibitions, her inspiration to use the burnt ash, enabled her to connect with the subject in a raw and personal way. This emotive process, using personal, and tactile resources inspired her further work. Suzanne’s oil painting (with human hair) of her sister, was shortlisted and selected for exhibition by the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in London at the Mall Galleries, in 2020.
Suzanne received the Tom Urwin Fine Art Award 2022 for 'Mum Facing Dementia' at the SWA exhibition. As a British Art Prize 2024 winner, she exhibited at the OXO Gallery and displayed another piece, 'Mum Despite Dementia' at Guildford House Gallery. These portraits are part of a series created using sketches and photos from a weekend session following her mother's vascular dementia diagnosis.
Suzanne’s inspiration for painting increasingly explores the psychological aspects of the human condition and our environment. While Suzanne recognizes the beauty in the world, her aim is to create work that engages viewers, encouraging questioning, consideration, and empathy.
Suzanne has exhibited numerous times at the Mall Galleries, OXO Gallery, London, Guildford, Winchester, San Francisco, and Palm Springs, CA, USA.
