DOREEN LANGHORN
SWA

Born with a hearing disability, Doreen has grown up studying faces and body language for clues to conversation, and from this has evolved her fascination for painting people. Working in all media she has concentrated on depicting her subjects, not necessarily in formal portraits, but going about the daily activities of their lives, and in particular she enjoys capturing the magic and innocence of children. Exhibiting both here and in France, Doreen has gained a reputation for her strong vibrant colour palette and the quality of light portrayed in her work, and over the years has been the recipient of numerous awards.
Elected to membership of The Society of Women Artists in 1996, in 2009 her painting 'The Red Bucket' was front cover for 'The End of Emily West,' the latest novel by Wendy Turner-Webster, and in 2020 she was a finalist in The Sunday Times Watercolour Competition.
As an adjunct to so much visual work, Doreen is also the author of three children's books, and is currently penning a series of short stories, to be published in 2026.
