Kathy
Barker trained at Wimbledon School of Art, first in fine art painting and then
achieved an MA in Printmaking. Awarded
a studio at The Florence Trust in Highbury and Islington Kathy then decided to
pursue studies in classical portrait painting in Florence, Italy. Amongst
commissioned portraiture work Kathy has also worked on mural commissions in
the UK, Spain and Antigua. In
2005 her commissioned book on “Drawing and Painting the Clothed Figure”
was published by Crowood Press. Kathy
Barker is currently a Postgraduate drawing tutor at West Dean College, The
Edward James Foundation. She also gives life drawing classes at the Hurlingham
Studios in South West London. “I
love painting people from life. I try to attain that first impression that
impacts in my mind. The relationship that develops between me and the subject
is both fascinating and richly fulfilling”
